A Matter of Course: Drop Areas

After the opening of the course, you may have noticed the new locations of our drop areas on holes #4,5,8,11,13,17 & 18; which all have been marked with paint and a white stake (seen below).  In years past, the drop areas were located further back and some on our bentgrass tees.  This year and beyond, we have moved all drop areas closer to their adjacent hazard and in the rough.

From an agronomic standpoint, by moving the drop areas in the rough, this will help keep our bentgrass tees healthy with less divots and traffic.  Furthermore, we now can move the drop areas around more freely in the rough, rather than always staying in their previous bentgrass tee locations.  This practice will allow us to provide a better hitting area when taking a penalty drop.

From a playability standpoint, by moving the drop areas to the rough, this will utilize last year’s bentgrass drop area tees, and transform them into additional playing tees to help vary the yardages on our par-3s.

These new drop area locations have been verified by our WSGA Rules Official, Gary Wild.  Please keep in mind that these new drop area locations are just an option, so please review your USGA rule book or ask your pro staff at Green Bay Country Club any questions.
