A Matter of Course: Parking Lot Project

This past summer, the grounds crew started a parking lot project. The objectives of the project were to have the parking lot navigate safely and make the parking lot and roadside more aesthetically pleasing. Our first step was to restore the parking lot to its original one-way traffic pattern (see below) by repainting the white arrows. This has made the parking lot much safer when arriving and departing the Main Clubhouse.

Our second step was to install new stone signs in the pillars stating Entrance and Exit ONLY (see below).

Our final step was to cut back any trees or shrubs that obstructed the view of oncoming traffic when entering or exiting the parking lot.

Our second objective was to have the roadside entrance and exit be more aesthetically pleasing.  This past fall, you may have noticed the removal of sumac and volunteer trees along the northside of the parking lot and Klondike Road (see below).  Sumac and volunteer trees were never meant to be planted and have become very invasive throughout the property.

By removing all the invasive trees, we were able to open up some new light and views along the GBCC entrance and exit (see below).

Once the removal around the parking lot was completed, we needed a plan to plant better species of trees and shrubs along Klondike Road.  The grounds crew has a landscape plan for the spring of 2020 to plant shrubs and trees that will vary in species, color, texture, spacing, and height.  Once completed, the landscape will give members and their guests a great look and experience before entering the property.
